Wedding Band Options for Men

By Eriani Doyel

Tip! Diamond wedding rings are pieces of jewelry that will probably be worn all the time, for a very long time to come. Besides, wedding rings reveal a person's choice and style, even personality.

With all of the attention that a woman gets for her engagement and wedding ring, the man's wedding band is often forgotten or not noticed. But, this is changing as more men are becoming involved in the process of shopping for and choosing their ring. Believe it or not, the vast majority of men did not even wear a wedding band until the 20th century. Women have worn a wedding band for thousands of years as a symbol that the belonged to a man. But, when World War I hit and men were sent off to war, they wanted something to remind them of their wives back home-so the wedding band for men was invented.

Although the simple gold wedding band is classic and can be very attractive and practical, there are a number of other choices available today for the groom. You can choose from several different metals, styles, and even have jewels or precious stones in a man's wedding ring.

Gold is still a very popular choice for a man's wedding band, and it can easily be etched, engraved or given designer touches to make it unique, however it is also a soft metal and can be worn down easily. Silver is not a very good choice because it is easily tarnished, but white gold looks a lot like silver and could be a substitute. Platinum and titanium are two of the more modern wedding band choices for both men and women. They are hard metals and also very durable. Titanium can even be found in colors such as black, blue, and gold for a more personalized touch.

Tip! If an engagement ring is given, it is very important to consider how the wedding band will look with it on the hand. (We hope that before making the final decision on your engagement ring, you also give some thought to your wedding band.

To give your band an even more unique look, you should look for a ring with some precious jewels or stones in it. They can be placed in a single line around the band, or in a group, or you can have a single large stone in the top center. Two different colored metals can be combined for a two-tone look.

You can easily shop for a men's wedding ring at your local jeweler, or you can check out one of the hundreds of online jewelers.
