BARNSLEY College catering students cooked up a winning recipe when they swept the board at a top culinary competition.
Judges including Michael Quinn, former executive chef of the Ritz Hotel London, delivered their verdict on entries from Yorkshire and Lancashire colleges in the Salon Culiniere regional competition in Leeds.
Barnsley students won the Best Food Service Team in the Cook and Serve competition.
The team of five - chefs Sandra Moorhouse, Tracy Greenwood and Dawn Windle, who are studying on the Chef's Diploma course, and two waiting on staff, Matthew Kelly and Rebecca Sutton, who are on the Advanced Food Service Craft course - dazzled judges.
They had 30 minutes to compose a three course menu from a box of mystery ingredients and only two hours to prepare, cook and serve the dishes using every ingredient provided.
The waiting on team lay the table for four covers demonstrating a range of restaurant skills including a variety of napkin folds using starched linen, preparing and serving wine and finally serving the meal to real customers in the restaurant.
Part-time cake decorating students Tracy Williams, Carole Goth and Julie Eyre also impressed the judges in the Celebration Cake competition winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
All three students received distinction marks for the decoration of a celebration cake of their choice and were commended for the professional standard of their work.
Head of Hospitality and Tourism at Barnsley College Phil O'Neill said: 'This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication put in by the students as well as staff from the Catering and Hospitality department at Barnsley College.'
